About Jennifer L. Rice

Jennifer Rice is a family law practitioner in Fort Collins, Colorado.  She handles complex divorce and other family law matters, including adoption.

Jennifer received her Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she served as a member of the South Carolina Environmental Law Journal and was the recipient of the Roberts’ Senior Writing Award for Outstanding Research Paper. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia. Go Wahoos!

After law school, Jennifer moved to Colorado. She was admitted to the Colorado Bar and practiced law in the Denver area. In 2001, she moved to Fort Collins and worked as an associate with a small family law and litigation firm.  Jennifer opened her own law firm in 2003.

Honors & Awards 
Jennifer was selected to be a Colorado Bar Fellow in 2014.  Colorado Bar Fellows are nominated by their peers and chosen based on prominence, reputation and good standing in the legal community, outstanding contributions in their communities, and contributions to advancing justice.  

Jennifer was honored as the 2003 Gary L. McPherson Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year by the Colorado Bar Association. The Award is given for outstanding service to the legal profession and the community. Jennifer is one of six lawyers from Larimer County to receive this statewide award since 1961.

Jennifer was selected as part of the inaugural class of the Colorado Bar Association Leadership Training (COBALT) for 2007. She was a member of the 2008 COBALT Steering Committee.

Professional Activities 
Jennifer is a member of the Larimer, Colorado, and American Bar Associations. She is active in professional organizations, both as a member and serving in leadership positions.  Jennifer is currently the Chair of the Larimer County Bar Association Professionalism Committee.  She is also one of three representatives from the Larimer County Bar Association to the Colorado Bar Association’s Board of Governors.  Jennifer also serves as a member of the 8th Judicial District Domestic Relations Best Practices Committee and is on the Northern Colorado Planning Committee for the Colorado Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.

Jennifer served two terms as a member of the Executive Council of the Colorado Bar Association Family Law Section.  She is a Past President of the Larimer County Bar Association, and a former Commissioner on  the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Eighth Judicial District (Larimer and Jackson Counties).  Early in her career, she served as President of the Larimer County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and the Larimer County Womens Bar Association.  She is also a Fellow of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division.

Civic & Community Activities
Jennifer is active in the Fort Collins and Loveland communities. She has volunteered for the Crossroads Safehouse in Fort Collins, served as a Board member for Alternatives to Violence in Loveland, and assisted with the Fort Collins High School Mock Trial Team. She was a member of the 2002 Women of the Year Program for the Mildred G. Arnold Foundation, which honors and empowers women in Larimer County. In 2008, she served as a Facilitator for the Women of the Year Program.  Jennifer co-hosted a bi-monthly radio show on KRFC 88.9 FM Radio Fort Collins, a  community powered music, news, and entertainment radio station in Fort Collins., for 17 years.  

A native Virginian, Jennifer and her family reside in Fort Collins.  She is an active member of her community and spends as much time as possible outdoors.
